Prepares, seasons, and cooks soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, specialty dishes, and other food items for consumption in eating establishments.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Entry Level Cook Position works with a team in the main kitchen and is assisted by others generally a more experienced Cook II or Cook III.
  • Adjusts thermostat controls to regulate temperature of ovens, fryers, broilers, grills, roasters, and steam kettles.
  • Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipe to prepare soups, salads, gravies, sauces, and casseroles.
  • Bakes, roasts, broils, fries, and steams meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods.
  • Adds seasoning to foods during mixing or cooking.
  • Observes and tests foods being cooked by tasting, smelling, and piercing with fork to determine that it is cooked.
  • Carves meats, portions food on serving plates, adds gravies and sauces, and garnishes servings to fill orders.
  • Works together as a team to achieve customer service.
  • Communicates with fellow coworkers to complete daily production.
  • Washes, peels, cuts, and shreds vegetables and fruits to prepare them for use.
  • Butchers chickens, fish, and shellfish.
  • Cuts, trims, and bones meat prior to cooking.
  • Bakes bread, rolls, cakes, and pastry.
  • Follows all food safety, sanitation, and HACCP guidelines when preparing hot and cold foods.
  • Follow established company and departmental standards for personal appearance and behavior.
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Slip resistant shoes

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.  Culinary Arts Certificate or degree from two-year College or technical school preferred; and/or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience with high volume cooking is HIGHLY preferred.


Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, menus, recipes, short correspondence, and memos Communicate efficiently with your fellow coworkers and/or supervisors


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

Gaming license issued by the Paskenta Gaming Commission.  Food handler’s permit from a relevant government agency.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell.  The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to walk.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
